Being Thankful is a Choice.
When we choose to be thankful we create an attitude and energetic environment of contentment or santosha. Santosha is the second niyama or ethical observance in yoga. When we are content we are in a state of acceptance and trust that all life circumstances have purpose and meaning. It is a profound awakening to the present and fosters a deep feeling of gratitude.
Gratitude can be found in the darkest places. Even among the gloomiest hells of humanity, strands of generosity are woven. Through the dark streets of poverty, roads of love are paved. In the canyons of death and destruction, echoes of laughter can be heard. We are creatures of gratitude – abundance is always near to our lips and present in our palms.
Gratitude is a wellspring to drink and a flame to ignite. It is the essence of every being. It is life within each of us and we ought to be thankful for this life. It is here that we feel, embrace, and live in beauty. It is here that we dance, make love, laugh, share, grow, and offer passion.
Our expressions of joy, bliss, and wonder, are a bubbling well of gratitude that rises in our being as we embrace the world around us. Only when we inhibit this intuitive flow, this inspired momentum, this river of gratitude do we limit our lives. Why do we limit ourselves from such fulfillment?
Perhaps today we will find cause to celebrate and honor the gift of our presence in the world, and to love all those who share in this sacred journey. Today is the perfect day to be thankful! Let’s be thankful together. My gratitude toward you is ever-flowing.
Daily Reflections
Ask yourself. . .
What am I thankful for today?
How can I offer my gratitude in practice?
How will I share my gifts of gratitude?
