Leo is ruled by the Sun, and therefore, its enlightened state is fully illuminated – awakened. Its resources are love and compassion with an ever-flowing generous nature. Leo has innate leadership qualities and often insists on expressing its full capacity without restraint while expecting open acceptance, and more importantly, reverence and praise. These expectations can sometimes cause a rift in Leo’s natural inclination to serve the people and turn its focus inward to the misguided ego attributes of insecurity and shame. Ultimately Leo wants to have FUN, to express, create, and live fully, to love and be loved.
The key questions for this moon are: Who is the leader of our show? (In other words, from where and how are we being led? Is it from our insecurities and fears? Our resentments and frustrations? Or, from our heart’s longing and creative brilliance?) What dramas are playing out in our mind and in our life? And, are we choosing to be the lead character and main focus in our play? When we choose to be the leader of our lives and creatively express the fullness of our being we experience our awakened heart.
This lunation culminates from the New Moon in Capricorn on Jan 9, meaning this awakening has everything to do with what’s at our roots and how we draw upon the wisdom of our lineage and reform the old stories to serve the truth of our hearts. Mercury is also linked to this lunation as it began its retrograde at the new moon and will be conjunct Pluto on this full moon. Communicating our power, our passions, and our authority are the themes coming to the fore. Being cautious of gravity’s pull toward obsessive thinking or indulging in negativity, comparison, jealousy, and fear is advised.
Pluto has a sharpening effect on the mind (Mercury) and can be keenly perceptive. We can utilize this influence by paying attention to that which is becoming clear through the Mercury retrograde reflection and harness our focus toward building a strong framework and foundation so that we can flourish and be free. Reforming our communication, claiming the authority of our voice, and focusing our mind are the primary revelations of Mercury’s retrograde in Capricorn with Pluto’s influence.
With Venus making her transition into Capricorn we are getting more serious about our values and our worth. Remembering that grace and beauty are the keystones of our integrity. And, with all the sobering energy of Capricorn the playful fun loving Leo might feel pressured to perform (or manage its many responsibilities), inhibiting its free-flowing nature. Therefore, being mindful of the minds urge to digress and keeping our spirits high will allow joy flow.
The Sun is projecting its light from the realm of Aquarius. Activating the Leo brilliance to think on a collective level, to take things less personally and express its expansive nature without drama. An awakened heart pours light without refrain. And, its main focus is to shine for the sake of shining.
The Sun/moon opposition are also forming a T-square to Mars in Scorpio, confronting our deepest desires and drawing to the surface inner passions and drives.
