“It is spring again. The earth is like a child that knows poems by heart.” ~ Rainer Maria Rilke

SPRING EQUINOX: Mar 20, 2018 at 11:16am EST

Our lives are cyclical by nature. Every year Spring comes…birds appear, sprouts surface, fruit trees blossom, days are longer, the sun shines brighter…as if the dark of night has awoken the innate potential of our essence, our purpose. And, the life around us emulates the quality of growth and vitality.

“There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.” ~ Pythagoras

Everything we need to know about ourselves and life is encoded in nature, in our bodies and in the cosmos. In esoteric kriya yoga we recognize the changes of the seasons (as they correspond to the solstices and equinoxes) as movements and energy flow up and down the chakric tree of life (symbolic of the six primary states of consciousness). The movement of the Sun from the sign of Pisces (the quality of water and fluidity) to Aries (the element of fire and activation) is the movement from the sacral to the solar plexus chakra. It also marks the first day of spring.

The Spring Equinox is a point in the annual celestial calendar representing the restoration of equality, balance, and harmony. When the Earth’s equator passes through the sun center and day and night are equal. This cosmic projection of harmony provides an opportunity to bring anything out of alignment back into balance. Life and nature seek balance and spring is a time of harmonizing our inner and outer lives. Refining our perception of who we are.

In the study of yoga we discover sacred geometric patterns, called yantras, specific for each chakra. The geometric symbol for the solar plexus, or manipura chakra, is a downward facing triangle encased by a golden sun with ten rays. The triangle represents the flame of the feminine shakti power and is associated with the Tetrahedron. The Tetrahedron is the first of five platonic solid and is the basis for the geometry of creation.

“The harmony of the world is made manifest in Form and Number, and the heart and soul and all the poetry of Natural Philosophy are embodied in the concept of mathematical beauty.” ~ D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson

The platonic solids, understood for thousands of years, are made up of five geometric shapes and are the mathematical breakdown and basis of our dimensional reality. Simply speaking the tetrahedron symbolizes fire or the spark of creation and this translates as a point of assertion, in this instance our will. Recognizing our responsibility to govern ourselves and our reality, to create with consciousness and care, and to ultimately activate and harness our vital energies (prana).

From a cosmological and astrological perspective, Mars is the planet that shows us where our personal power lies and how to best access and utilize it –  transforming inertia into action. (Look to the sign and house where Mars is located in your natal chart to learn more OR click here to schedule a personal chart reading.) By understanding our personal Mars we can understand our entire being. Mars is our passion, desire, willpower, frustration, anger… it is all that we are willing to fight for and also shows us how we might be fighting against ourselves. It gives us the capacity to both create and destroy.

The goal here is to activate the harmonic convergence between our personal and divine will.

SPRING SADHANA SUGGESTIONS:

  • CHANT: Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram – meaning may the lord of virtue that dwells in my heart be victorious of all internal and external obstacles lead to fulfillment of divine will.
  • MEDITATE: Meditate on the manipura yantra (see image below).
  • BREATH: harmonize the inhalation with the exhalation – Deep abdominal breathing for 1-3 minutes using an inhale count of 4-7 and the same count for the exhalation with a 3 second pause at both the top and bottom of the breath.

HAPPY SPRING! HAPPY CREATING!
